How to Decorate Your Garden

By Anne Lupton

Expert Author Anne Lupton
Do you feel that your garden looks the same every time you look at it and it looks so boring? Or you are not anymore inspired and relaxed every time you see your garden? What could be the best thing to do with it? Well, decorating your garden should be the best solution to your problem!

Here are a few tips that could improve and make your garden more appealing and inspiring:

Add ornaments

Adding ornaments to your garden as a finishing touch could greatly improve the look of your garden. An example would be adding a wrought-iron gate that would mark as your entrance to your lovely garden. A lantern hung on your trees with lights would be very nice to look at especially during the evening. It adds an enchanting appeal to your garden. If you want to have a relaxing place on your garden, you might add a table and a bench made of wood or steel.

Create an outdoor room

As much as you would love to design your rooms inside, it is also nice to create an outdoor room where you can comfortably relax and relieve all the stress from work. A good example would be placing a pillar one of your pathways and adding some ornaments to make it more beautiful.

Match your exterior design to your interior style

Matching the style of your interior to your exterior design would extremely look amazing. Add those ornaments outside to make the theme of your home more appealing.

Improve your garden entrance

Dressing up your garden entrance can give it more mystery and enchantment on what it would bring to an ordinary stroll to your garden. It is best to have it connected to your passageways and paths. You can have the garden gate covered with vines, add some bougainvilleas that are potted, citrus trees or even palm trees.

Use furnishings

Adding furnishings to your garden would work best if they match the theme you have created. These furnishings should go hand in hand with the other ornaments and decorations you have used on your garden.

Outdoor decors should be suited for outdoor use

Make sure that any furnishings or ornaments you planned or used should be suitable for outdoor use. These should survive in any weather conditions so you will not have to buy another set of decorations because they are destroyed. You can choose from cheaper wicker chairs instead of those costly all-weather furnishings.

Light your garden

Adding some light to your garden can make it more romantic. You can even have your parties or dinners outside your garden if you have added lights to your paths. Hanging outdoor lanterns with light can make your outdoor garden decoration into a higher level.

Show off your plant collection

Buy pots that are beautifully designed and place your plant collection in them. Your plant collection would look better if they are displayed where everyone can appreciate and adore their beauty. If you have them hidden, they would soon die as you have forgotten them.

As you may know Honeywell make mainframe computers so I expected them to know a thing or two about air cooling systems. I was right. This tower air cooler is reasonably quiet, particularly at the low setting. It oscillates or can be used in a static direction and distributes cool air efficiently. It has a breeze simulation function where it stops intermittently but I don't use that as it goes silent when the breeze "stops" and I found myself waiting for it to start again so I just use it on the oscillating function. Nice design especially where the remote control fits in an indent on the top of the machine. No excuse for losing it!

The Spring Lawn Calendar

By Tony Squire

Expert Author Tony Squire
The lawn work programme gets into full swing at the beginning of Spring. As soon as the grass begins to grow and the weather and ground conditions have improved, give the surface of the lawn a good rake in order to remove any debris such as leaves and other garden rubbish. Don't rake too vigorously though as you will damage your grass. If there have been heavy frosts in the Winter it is a good idea to settle the turf by giving it a light roll. It is not essential but is good for the lawn.

The first mow should be to just remove the top of the grass. If you cut too short at this time, or any time for that matter, you will scalp the lawn and it will turn brown. Choose a day when the surface is dry. In the first month of Spring, two fortnightly mows will be sufficient.

This is also the time to look for early signs of disease and apply a moss killer if required. Also neaten up or replace broken lawn edges.

The second month of Spring is the time to feed and weed, providing the grass and weeds are actively growing. Seek advice from your local garden centre on what treatments to use. If you use lawn sand you must ensure it is spread evenly and that the dead moss is raked up two weeks later. If any rogue grasses have arrived on your lawn, now is the time to dig them out and fill in the holes with sifted soil. Following this you can reseed the area or add a patch of turf. Your mowing regime should be at least fortnightly and on a level 5 or 6 cutting height on your lawn mower. This allows the grass to thrive without getting away from you.

In the last month of Spring ideally you should mow on a weekly basis on a level 4 cutting height. Again, if time is not available a minimum of fortnightly mowing is fine. This is also the best time for weed killing with either a selective weed killer or lawn sand. Remember the grass must be dry, the soil moist and the day fine and still when using weed sprays. This prevents innocent plants being killed, especially if a breeze blows the vapours on to them.

The soil is usually moist at the end of Spring but should a dry spell occur, ensure you water your lawn regularly.

Now that the necessary tasks are done, bring on the Summer gardening jobs!

Can reduce a rooms feel of hot and stuffy to cool and breezy (and by breezy i mean damned windy) in less than 30 seconds. It is however rather noisy. Cannot listen to music through speakers in the same room, but headphones work fine. Still, the noise is a small price to pay for the cooling ability of this fan!

Purchased during 2013 UK heat wave and it kept us cool. However, in my opinion it is noisy and sounds like a small aircraft about to depart!

Soil Stabilization - The Rising Popularity of Hydromulch Seeding

By Max Baxter

If you have a garden in your property, and are passionate about maintaining it properly, you must have heard of hydromulch seeding. When it comes to growing grass in an effective and timely manner, there aren't a lot of methods which are effective as hydromulching. It is not a complicated process and involves spraying a combination tackifiers and organic matter onto an area to facilitate re-vegetation.

Unlike traditional methods such as sowing seeds and planting sods, hydromulch seeding is not too labor intensive and you will be able to cover a large area in a lower amount of time. Moreover, it suppresses dust in the area and reduces the negative effects of strong winds. Due to its numerous benefits, it is no surprise that hydromulching has become so popular.

Hydromulch seeding helps in soil stabilization. If the soil is too acidic or too basic, plants growing on it could be negatively affected. By introducing inorganic and organic components, it helps considerably improve the fertility of the soil, while maintaining its pH balance. Organic components usually involve shredded plant parts such as leaves. These organic constituents are converted into compost by bacteria present in the soil, and are absorbed by plants. Inorganic additives such as magnesium, calcium, potassium and zinc also help in making the soil more stable and productive.

The mixture used for hydromulching contains fibrous materials which help bind soil particles together, making it more stable. Not only do these fibrous materials make it easier to plant seeds, they also serve as a net and helps fight soil erosion. By preserving the moisture content of the soil and adding nutrients, the health of the topsoil is maintained. This helps prevent soil collapse and allows you to grow vegetation on sloping or uneven surfaces. As plants grow, and the roots begin to burrow deep underground, the soil will become even more stabilized.

A great benefit of hydromulch seeding is the ease with which it can be applied. It is an effective way of planting lawn or turf grass, and you need not have high levels of skill to do it. It is done using an adjustable nozzle and a powerful pump, and the process is almost as easy as watering plants. The major difference is that slurry of mulch and seed is sprayed, instead of water. The sprayer makes it easy to cover a large area, while making sure that all nooks and crannies are reached. It also makes it easy to patch any damaged areas.

Because the size of the spraying nozzle can be adjusted, you will be able to easily make sure that seed density is maintained in an area. The slurry can be made homogenous by making sure that the amount of fertilizer, seeds, mulch and water are perfectly maintained.

As you can see, hydromulch seeding is an effective way of improving soil stability and re-vegetating damaged areas. Even in its current form, the process has proven to be extremely effective, and is set to improve as more research is done into it.
